Over the years, Australia Post has implemented a number of major change programs to promote its reputation, corporate culture and operations to emerge as one of Australia's most successful and trusted organisations. Last year in Logan City, Australia Post had introduced a new type of delivery – our community walking posties – and had several vacancies to fill.
The Workforce Development staff at the Logan Office of Economic Development (LOED) was able to assist us to facilitate the recruitment information sessions for the community walking postie positions available in Crestmead. The sessions were attended by members of the local community, predominantly from non-English speaking backgrounds.
These applicants, while diverse in terms on nationality, had a common link of wanting to establish a long term career with our organisation. Their desire to secure employment with Australia Post was demonstrated through their enthusiastic questions following a detailed brief on the role given before the sessions by the LOED.
The personalised service and assistance provided by LOED were key ingredients in seeking and obtaining the applicants for the community walking postie roles in Crestmead. These sessions assisted our recruitment strategy for this particular area at that time, and we were able to fill all vacancies successfully.

Snap Fresh, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas, established a new facility in 2001 to produce fully-prepared meals for Qantas, other airline customers and other businesses including those in the retail and healthcare sectors.
Qantas decided to locate the facility at Logan near Brisbane where it has easy access to South-East Queensland’s fresh quality produce, well-developed infrastructure and quality labour.
Officially opening the new facility in 2001, Qantas Chairman, Margaret Jackson, said: “What you see at Snap Fresh is the combination of passion and science. The leading edge technology allows us to maintain quality while meeting the demands of airline catering which requires tens of thousands of meals to be prepared each day”.
The Snap Fresh plant remains one of the best facilities of its kind in the world. Employing some 220 staff, it uses the latest spiral freezing technology and has an annual operating capacity of 20 million fully-prepared meals.
While traditional inflight meals prepared at other Qantas catering centres are chilled prior to being served, Snap Fresh meals are cooked and rapidly frozen. Prepared meals are then distributed to Qantas catering centres or refrigerated storage around Australia as well as shipped to overseas ports.
With Snap Fresh, Qantas is leading the way in catering in the southern hemisphere, following a worldwide trend to centrally produce meals to maximise the quality and consistency of its inflight meal services.
Opportunities in both Retail and Health Care are also being developed with further significant opportunities for high quality nutritious and cost effective meals.
