The Food Industry
The Food Industry is a big blip on the LOED radar. The food industry will play an important role in Logan's economy, due to the industry's growth and resiliency.
The Australian food, drink and grocery products manufacturers industry is Australia's largest manufacturing sector with over $100 billion in domestic and export revenues and over 315,000 workers (3% of the Australian workforce). Due to the industry's growth and resiliency and Logan's central and idyllic location, the food industry will play an important role in the growth of industry in Logan.
The industry has over 38,000 food manufacturers and accounts for 28% of all Australian manufacturing and 9% of exports. The only industry comparable in size is the mining industry.
LOED is preparing a direct marketing program (75 kilometre radius) to prospective companies, (approximately 700+), in New South Wales and Victoria that will include market information and tailored business cases on Logan as the ideal Southeast Queensland location to invest in.
The business cases will showcase what the region has to offer in terms of the regional market size, industry information (workforce, existing companies), regionally based companies in the food industry supply chain and the central location of Logan to major centres (Brisbane and Gold Coast), infrastructure (transport and logistics) and food producing regions (Darling Downs, Sunshine Coast, Northern Queensland and Northern New South Wales).
The LOED program at Austech in Sydney in May (National Manufacturing Week) will include business meetings with Sydney based food companies looking at Southeast Queensland as a potential investment opportunity as a result and follow up of the direct mail out.
Further to the direct marketing, LOED has confirmed an annual sponsorship with the industry's leading national organisation representing Australia's packaged food, drink and grocery products manufacturers - the Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC). AFGC members comprise more than 80% of the of the gross dollar value of the processed food, beverage and grocery products sectors. The sponsorship will enable to LOED to gain further access to industry executives at various AFGC events, build linkages and make a clear statement to the industry that Logan is serious about attracting food industry related investment into the city.
