Logan Workskills Forum
The Logan Office of Economic Development (LOED) struck all the right cords with local business representative at the Workskills Forum held on Tuesday the 2nd of March 2010. Many business representatives in attendance said the LOED was second-to-none when it came to innovation and knowing what the Logan business community needed and wanted.
As part of the forum, Logan business representatives heard about a new national workplace health and safety policy to be launched before January 2012, a campaign targeting medium sized businesses and how belief filters attitude and behaviour in relation to workplace health and safety.
Angie Rue from Blueprint Employment and Training said she had attended all forums since they were introduced in August 2009, and found them to be a good mixture of practical and up-to-date topical information.
"Today's forum was particularly interesting to me because we provide safety training in high risk environments, so for that reason it is good to hear what is happening at both a state and national level," she said.
APC State Manger, Chris West, said this was the first forum he had been to but he had found it beneficial. "This really reinforces what we are all ready trying to do," he said. "I agree with Dave's comments about safety and see attitude as the most important tool to address safety in the workplace."
Career Keys Business Relations Manager, Wayne Lee, said he wouldn't miss the forums. "We are a not-for-profit organisation funded to up-skill the community in areas which could assist them to gain employment," he said.
"Marita (Workskills Forum Coordinator) knows how to come up with the topics that get organisations like ours engaged. We assist more than 450 people per year with up-skilling and about 320 of them successfully gain employment."
Mr Lee said he really liked the suggestion to start every team meeting with a safety focus, and that would be something he would be doing from now on.
