Transport & Logistics Industry-Schools Forum
On the 3rd of September Worklinks Partnership Brokers based in Springwood, facilitated an industry-schools forum for the Transport & Logistics sector.
This event provided an effective forum for key stakeholders to communicate their needs and expectations of the school based apprenticeship and traineeship programs in Logan.
The T&L industry was represented at the forum by Toll NQX, Grace, JJ Richards and Cummins Diesel. Also present were industry liaison officers, teachers and school based apprenticeship program coordinators from the regions' schools, as well as State government agency representatives.
The purpose of the forum was to bring key stakeholders together to examine the school based apprenticeship and traineeship programs' performance - what's working and what isn't. Industry representatives communicated the demand for, and importance of sound literacy and numeracy competencies combined with a good attitude in the workplace. Issues around curriculum relevancy and the need for strong partnerships between businesses and the schools they recruit from were chief topics of discussion.
