National Broadband Network (NBN) - Telecommunications Cabling Pilot Graduation Day!
The Logan Office of Economic Development (LOED) has been positioning Logan as a priority location for the early rollout of the National Broadband Network in southeast Queensland.
LOED has established an excellent working relationship with Energy Skills Queensland (ESQ), and the Australian Telecommunications Users' Group which is Australia's most prominent telecommunications lobby group. LOED is an active participant in the South East Queensland NBN Workforce Group under the SEQ Council of Mayors. LOED will be recommending that Logan City Council lodge a submission with NBN Co. for priority positioning in the NBN rollout for Logan City.
LOED has taken a proactive approach in identifying employment opportunities and associated demand for skills required to implement the rollout of the NBN in our region. LOED, Energy Skills Queensland, BSA and BoysTown have delivered the first certificated qualification program in Logan for telecommunications cabling. Participants trained by BoysTown graduated on Friday the 17th of September 2010 (see below for a photo).
Participants for the BoysTown training scheme were put through pre-screening and tested for physical fitness, literacy skills, and a criminal history check. Youth and unemployed residents were targeted as participants for the training. Successful completion of the ICT30208 Certificate II in Telecommunications Cabling provides employment opportunities in the rollout of the National Broadband Network. This qualification leads to further training and careers pathways in the Digital Economy including digital reception to the home.
