Boost for business as Tyco opens doors
Logan City's local economy received a healthy boost last week with the official opening of Tyco at SouthWest 1 Enterprise Park in Berrinba.
The Wayne Goss Drive business will be the Queensland head office for Tyco and house five divisions of the company - Wormald, ADT Security, Tyco Safety Products, Unistrut Australia P/L and Simplex.
Councillor Parker said the relocation of Tyco from its original Cannon Hill base was a major coup for Logan City.
''I congratulate Tyco for being astute and identifying Logan City as the ideal location for their state head office,'' she said.
''There is going to be rapid growth in Logan in the near future and your location here is smack bag in the middle of it - you are ahead of the game by choosing this as the place to establish your business.
''The momentum is building, we are about to go through a growth tsunami here in Logan so your decision to invest in this city will no doubt prove to be a sound economic one.''
Cr Parker said South West 1 was an attractive estate in a fantastic location that would continue to help the city attract employment-based, high value jobs.
Mr Oliver said with more than 250 staff, Tyco would be a significant employer in the area.
''With more than 4,000 employees nationwide, locations like we have in Logan are critical to our success,'' he said.
He said Tyco was committed to providing a workplace that prided itself on innovative environmental features.
''Tyco has initiative we call vital world for our business that calls for us to collectively calls for us to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, our water consumption and waste generation by 25 per cent over the next five years.
''It is facilities like this that will help us achieve our goals. The energy efficiencies that are built in the office design are state of the art and include: an intelligent lighting control system, a collection of rainwater and the use of natural light in the warehouse.
''This new workplace is an example of environmental efficiencies and awareness of all of Tyco.''
Deputy Mayor Russell Lutton (Division 2), and Crs Graham Able (Division 5) and Luke Smith (Division 6) also attended the opening.
SouthWest 1 is a master planned 40-hectare mixed industry and business precinct that has quickly attracted high quality, green commercial tenants and is expected to create up to 2,000 new jobs in Logan in next few years.
The site adjoins the 80ha Berrinba Wetlands Park that is a combination of natural beauty, environmental features and recreational facilities.
The park features 7km of walking tracks, five bridges for walkers and cyclists, remnant bushland, a series of sheltered picnic areas, playgrounds and an interpretive centre and meeting facilities overlooking the wetlands.
High capacity optical fibre services have been provided to every business park property, which is unprecedented in a development in the greater Brisbane area. This ensures the highest level of business telecommunication needs can be met well into the future.
